Qualified candidates that demonstrate accelerated capability MAY be considered for paid part-time or full-time positions, if openings are available. Successful completion of the 2015 Reserve Academy does NOT guarantee employment with the Lafourche Parish Coroners Office.
Reserve Investigators are volunteers who assist the investigative staff in conducting medicolegal death investigations. Upon successful completion of the Reserve Investigator Academy, graduates are eligible to apply for a limited number of Reserve Investigator positions. Reserve Investigators are expected to complete two shifts monthly, during which time they will continue to learn and experience all the facets of a medicolegal death investigator’s role in the community.
Investigators are exposed to dead bodies in various stages of decomposition, infectious and contagious disease, noxious fumes, and hazardous materials. Investigators work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays in all weather conditions.
